Historique

History
The fief of Bréchinie fell under the barony of Marthon by liege homage and paid an annual rent to the abbey of Grosbot. Few elements of the original castle remain. The present main dwelling and its chapel were built in the early 18th century. The chapel was blessed in 1726. In 1793, the estate was placed under sequester as emigrant property. The main body comprises the rectangular main dwelling, with two pavilions projecting towards the south-west, as well as two outbuilding wings in right-angle return towards the north-east, around the former courtyard of honour. All of this is situated in the centre of a rectangle surrounded by a stone wall, defended by two round towers at the south-west corners. Above the cornice of the central entrance door of the south-west elevation, sculptured decoration develops, probably from the 19th century. The interiors were heavily altered in the 19th century for the panelling, plaster ceilings, fireplaces and windows. The dining room and kitchen have retained their pitchat floors. North-east of the main dwelling stands the chapel in right-angle return. A barrel vault cellar has been converted into a cistern and ice house. To the east stands the barn; to the south-west the dovecote which has retained its rotating ladder and dates from the 16th century. Near the latter is situated a 19th-century orangery.
