Historique
Grassac était le siège d'un archiprêtré qui avait été donné en 1097 par l'évêque Adhémar à l'abbaye de Bourgueuil qui l'unit à son prieuré Notre-Dame de Beaulieu à Angoulême. L'église fut agrandie, après les dommages de 1570, d'un bas-côté nord qui devait être voûté d'ogives. La voûte et divers travaux de restauration sont entrepris au 19e siècle. History
Grassac was the seat of an archpresbytery which had been given in 1097 by Bishop Adhémar to the abbey of Bourgueuil which united it to its priory Notre-Dame de Beaulieu at Angoulême. The church was enlarged, after the damage of 1570, by a north aisle which was to be vaulted with ribs. The vault and various restoration works were undertaken in the 19th century. The plan of the building is that of a rectangle enlarged by a bay beneath a bell tower and an apse in the extension of the initial nave. This first nave supported by flat buttresses and a projecting buttress of the 17th century, is vaulted with a flat barrel vault in plaster. The bay beneath the bell tower is vaulted with a stone dome on squinches, pierced by a hole for the bell and decorated with a false sky.
