The construction of a silk weaving factory at Saint-Siméon de Bressieux is one of the finest examples of industrial development in Bas-Dauphiné in the second half of the 19th century. The present buildings were erected between 1873 and 1875. After a peak (nearly a thousand workers) in 1889, the factory declined and closed its doors in 1934. The factory is built in two parts connected by a glazed gallery. The glazed gallery uses a Polonceau-type metal roof structure. Slender metal posts allow the interior space to be left open. The framing of openings (doors, windows) is executed in fired brick. Female workers, sometimes coming from far afield, lodged on site during the week: a workers' housing estate was therefore built from 1875 according to an L-shaped plan; the north side features a central avant-corps with triangular pediment; to the south of the building, one part was reserved for members of the management. The building is entirely constructed in rammed earth on a stone base, according to the technique of pisé. The L-shaped plan creates a sunny interior courtyard, with a central basin. In one corner of the courtyard, showers were installed.
