Vers la fin du 14e siècle, Aynard de Montferrand obtint des syndics de Lagnieu une tour des fotifications de la ville, qui servit peut-être de base à la construction du château. Vendu comme bien national à la Révolution, et divisé en lots qui amenèrent d'importants réaménagements intérieurs et l'arasement des tours. Au premier étage subsistent deux grandes cheminées gothiques. Le décor intérieur comprend également des fenêtres à coussièges, des volets du 17e siècle, des plafonds à la française et une pièce conservant des peintures murale représentant une scène de tournoi. Le château reste un témoignage des forteresses urbaines de la fin du Moyen-Age en Bugey. En 1974, la toiture est remplacée par une dalle de béton armé.

History
Towards the end of the 14th century, Aynard de Montferrand obtained from the syndics of Lagnieu a tower from the fortifications of the town, which may have served as the basis for the construction of the castle. Sold as national property at the Revolution, and divided into lots which led to significant interior alterations and the demolition of the towers. On the first floor two large Gothic fireplaces remain. The interior decoration also includes windows with stone seats, shutters from the 17th century, French ceilings and a room preserving mural paintings representing a tournament scene. The castle remains a testimony to the urban fortresses of the late Middle Ages in Bugey. In 1974, the roof was replaced by a reinforced concrete slab.
