History
The abbey is said to have been built on the tomb of the saint to whom it was dedicated. Historians believe that it was in 1090 that Pierre 1st, abbot, of the order of Saint-Benoît ordered the beginning of construction of the monastery church. The abbey continued its existence until the Revolution. Demolished stone by stone in 1791, its woodwork and marbles were sold off.
