Historique
Abbaye fondée en 1160 par Rual du Homme, confirmée en 1162 par Henri II, roi d'Angleterre. La protection est accordée en 1195 par Richard Cur de Lion. Montmorel constituait l'une des quatre abbayes d'hommes de l'ancien diocèse d'Avranches. L'église fut bâtie dès la création de l'abbaye. Le cloître en occupait l'aire sud. Le logis abbatial fermait le cloître au sud. Les guerres de Religion affectent l'abbaye. En 1602, l'abbaye est partiellement reconstruite. Au 17e siècle, elle possède une école théologique qui dispense les doctrines jansénistes. En 1791, elle est vendue comme bien national. L'église et les principaux bâtiments conventuels encore debout sont détruits. En subsistent le logis, les vestiges de l'aile orientale du cloître, la léproserie et les moulins.

History
Abbey founded in 1160 by Rual du Homme, confirmed in 1162 by Henri II, king of England. Protection was granted in 1195 by Richard the Lionheart. Montmorel was one of the four abbeys for men in the former diocese of Avranches. The church was built from the creation of the abbey. The cloister occupied the southern area.
