L'ancienne chapelle des Jésuites, construite en 1620-1625, pillée à la Révolution, réutilisée au 19e siècle en bibliothèque, fut détruite pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. History
The former chapel of the Jesuits, built in 1620-1625, pillaged at the Revolution, reused in the 19th century as a library, was destroyed during the First World War. The town decided to rebuild a festival hall in this stone envelope of which only the facade remains. The work was completed in 1927. The Maubeuge architects Jean and Henri Lafitte created two levels, with the music room on the ground floor and the ballroom on the upper floor. A monumental staircase serves the foyer and the upper floor. The building miraculously escaped the destruction of the town of Maubeuge during the last war and constitutes a unique example of the expression of Art Deco.
