Historique
En 1878, le maire de Bouvines décida de faire reconstruire l'église paroissiale, jugée trop vétuste et trop exiguë. La construction débuta en 1880 pour s'achever en 1886 ; les vitraux ne furent réalisés qu'à partir de 1889 ; l'église fut consacrée en 1910. L'architecte Auguste Normant s'est inspiré de l'architecture médiévale et l'a conçue comme une sainte-chapelle, ne renfermant aucune relique, mais servant d'écrin aux vitraux. L'église, composée d'une nef sans collatéraux séparée du choeur par un transept, est entièrement couverte de voûtes sur croisées d'ogives. Les vitraux ont été réalisés par Charles et Emmanuel Champigneulle, d'après des cartons de Pierre Fritel : ils illustrent la bataille de Bouvines, où Philippe-Auguste fut victorieux des coalisés.

History
In 1878, the mayor of Bouvines decided to have the parish church rebuilt, considered too dilapidated and too cramped. Construction began in 1880 and was completed in 1886; the stained glass windows were only made from 1889 onwards; the church was consecrated in 1910. The architect Auguste Normant was inspired by medieval architecture and designed it as a sainte-chapelle, containing no relic, but serving as a setting for the stained glass windows. The church, composed of a nave without aisles separated from the choir by a transept, is entirely covered with rib vaults. The stained glass windows were made by Charles and Emmanuel Champigneulle, based on cartoons by Pierre Fritel: they illustrate the Battle of Bouvines, where Philippe-Auguste was victorious over the coalition forces.
