History
Fort of the first type constructed in 1885 according to the system designed by Séré de Rivières in the fortified sector of Verdun, reinforced in 1887 and 1890, remodelled from 1901 to 1903, from 1907 to 1909 and from 1911 to 1913. With its three storeys of galleries and casemates, it is the most important and most heavily armed of the sector. Taken on 25 February 1916 and retaken on 24 October following, it receives during the battle nearly 120,000 shells.
