Un premier projet d'établissement d'une statue à la mémoire de Joséphine (1763-1814) date de 1837. C'est sous le Second Empire que le projet est repris. La première pierre est posée en 1856. La statue, oeuvre du sculpteur Vital Dubray, est inaugurée le 28 août 1859. Sur les quatre côtés du monument, se trouvent des plaques commémorant : sa date de naissance, sa date de mariage, le sacre et l'érection de la statue. En septembre 1991, la tête de la statue a été détruite par acte de vandalisme.

History
A first project for the establishment of a statue in memory of Joséphine (1763-1814) dates from 1837. It is under the Second Empire that the project is resumed. The first stone is laid in 1856.
