Chapelle de l'ancien pénitencier, construite à la fin du 19e siècle avec une ossature et une charpente en bois. Le plan correspond à celui utilisé en Guyane pendant la seconde moitié du 19e siècle pour toutes les églises : rectangle comprenant une nef, des collatéraux et un choeur charpentés. Le choeur est encadré par deux sacristies. L'entrée principale est protégée par un porche reposant sur des piliers. Lambris intérieurs peints en 1938 par le bagnard Francis Lagrange. Entre 1946 et 1976, après la suppression du bagne, l'église se dégrade par manque d'entretien.

History
Chapel of the former penitentiary, constructed at the end of the 19th century with a timber frame and roof structure. The plan corresponds to that used in Guiana during the second half of the 19th century for all churches: a rectangle comprising a nave, aisles and a roof-framed choir. The choir is framed by two sacristies. The main entrance is protected by a porch resting on pillars. Interior wainscoting painted in 1938 by convict Francis Lagrange. Between 1946 and 1976, following the suppression of the penal colony, the church deteriorated through lack of maintenance.
