History
This dwelling, which dates from the beginning of colonisation, is the oldest in Guadeloupe. It was shortly after 1651, the date of the establishment of the Carmelites in Guadeloupe, that they built a sugar factory on this site. The main house, built in rubble stone and ashlar for the surrounds, bears the date 1726. The buildings of the sugar works are in ruins, but the aqueduct bearing the date 1765 is in good condition. In 1920, the Dain family transformed the plantation into a coffee estate and had a coffee-processing plant built which was destroyed by the cyclone of 1964.
