History

The church dates from the end of the 11th or the beginning of the 12th century and presents exceptional interest through dispositions different from those generally found in the region. It has remained partly intact. In the 15th century, the old sanctuary was replaced by a square bay with rib vault and two arms of transept eliminated the old lateral gables. The lateral walls were raised, probably to replace a covering in flat stones resting directly on the vaults with a slate covering on roof structure, an operation which masked the base of the bell tower. The traces of the old top of the walls are indicated by fragments of cornices and corbels. The four-pitched roof of the bell tower was later accompanied by a needle spire. The nave consists of a large bay preceded by a smaller, oblong one, forming a vestibule. Above, a small dome with cut angles whose angles are met by washers in the masonry. Limited by four robust angles flanked by columns, the bay of the nave carries a dome on pendentives. It is separated from the bay of the bell tower by a small barrel vault in recessed form, also resting on a half lateral arch. A third dome occupies the bay of the bell tower with octagon and angle squinches. Externally, the bell tower has three blind arcatures; above, two openings.
