Historique
Labbaye, fondée en 1124 par Isembaud de lEtoile, rallia lordre de Cîteaux en 1149. Fille directe de Pontigny, elle constitue lun des rares établissements de cet ordre dans le Haut-Poitou. En ruine aux 15e et 16e siècles, elle fut rebâtie presque entièrement au 17e siècle pour retomber peu à peu à labandon au cours du 18e siècle. Vendue à la Révolution, elle devint une exploitation agricole, tandis que les bâtiments religieux étaient pillés et laissés à la ruine. Cet ensemble cistercien est protégé en raison de limportance historique de cette abbaye et de la qualité architecturale de ses vestiges. La protection sétend des bâtiments à caractère religieux (église, bâtiment des converts) aux bâtiments à caractère agricole (porche, ferme, portail, moulin).

History
The abbey, founded in 1124 by Isembaud de l'Etoile, joined the Cistercian order in 1149. Direct daughter of Pontigny, it constitutes one of the rare establishments of this order in Upper Poitou. In ruins in the 15th and 16th centuries, it was rebuilt almost entirely in the 17th century only to gradually fall into abandonment during the 18th century. Sold at the Revolution, it became an agricultural operation, while the religious buildings were plundered and left to ruin. This Cistercian complex is protected because of the historical importance of this abbey and the architectural quality of its remains. The protection extends from buildings of a religious character (church, converse building) to buildings of an agricultural character (porch, farm, gateway, mill).
