Remontant au 1er siècle de notre ère, l'aqueduc de Saintes partait à l'origine de Fontcouverte. Avec l'accroissement démographique et politique, le premier aqueduc est vite doublé et rallongé. History
Dating back to the 1st century of our era, the aqueduct of Saintes originally departed from Fontcouverte. With demographic and political growth, the first aqueduct was quickly doubled and extended. To increase its flow, the aqueduct was connected to the springs of Douhet and Vénérand. It stretches over approximately 11 km and crossed several valleys by means of masonry bridges with round arches.
