Historique
Le village des Arènes est situé sur l'ancienne voie romaine Saintes-Bordeaux. Le théâtre, construit sur un terrain plat, avait un diamètre de 90 mètres, La cavea faisant 46 mètres de diamètre. Le mur extérieur, ainsi que les vomitaria, étaient renforcés par de nombreux contreforts couchés, murs semi-circulaires renfermant de la terre étayant les murs principaux de l'édifice. Le théâtre antique, acquis par l'Etat le 25 juin 1986, a été vendu à la commune le 21 mars 2000.

History
The village of Arènes is situated on the ancient Roman road Saintes-Bordeaux. The theatre, built on flat ground, had a diameter of 90 metres. The cavea had a diameter of 46 metres. The outer wall, as well as the vomitoria, were reinforced by numerous recumbent buttresses, semi-circular walls containing earth supporting the main walls of the building. The ancient theatre, acquired by the State on 25 June 1986, was sold to the commune on 21 March 2000.
