Historique
La ville a été entourée par Vauban d'une ceinture de remparts disposée selon les principes de l'ingénieur. Au nord-est de la ville se trouve la citadelle ; au nord de la citadelle, est un petit port formé par deux jetées en forme de tenailles. La citadelle est carrée avec des bastions à chacun de ses angles. Une demi-lune se trouve en avant de chacun de ses fronts. L'entrée est située au nord, vis-à-vis du port, par la porte dite de "Montluc" dont l'ordonnance dorique se compose de deux grands pilastres avec entablement à triglyphes et fronton. Entre l'entablement et l'ouverture circulaire de l'entrée se trouve un grand tympan carré sculpté. La chapelle de la citadelle est à l'intérieur de l'enceinte, derrière le flanc est. Elle s'ouvre par une porte dorique avec fronton circulaire. Cette citadelle constitue une oeuvre d'architecture militaire de Vauban très complète et bien conservée.

History
The town was surrounded by Vauban with a belt of ramparts arranged according to the principles of the engineer. To the north-east of the town is found the citadel; to the north of the citadel, is a small port formed by two jetties in the shape of pincers. The citadel is square with bastions at each of its angles. A demi-lune is found in front of each of its fronts. The entrance is situated to the north, opposite the port, by the gate called "Montluc" whose Doric arrangement consists of two large pilasters with entablature with triglyphs and pediment. Between the entablature and the circular opening of the entrance is found a large carved square tympanum. The chapel of the citadel is inside the enclosure, behind the east flank. It opens by a Doric door with circular pediment. This citadel constitutes a very complete and well-preserved work of Vauban's military architecture.
