Cette construction est située dans l'une des plus anciennes rues de La Rochelle qui aboutissait à la "grande rive" qui s'étendait de la tour de la Chaîne au pont Saint-Sauveur. Elle était défendue, sur la "grande rive", par une porte qui faisait partie de l'enceinte créée autour du port au 14e siècle. Ce sont, avec l'immeuble n°4 rue du Port, les deux seuls édifices du 15e ou 16e sècle, subsistant encore. Façade en pans de bois avec colombage en encorbellement sur un entresol situé au-dessus d'une boutique. Garnissage en briques recouvertes d'un enduit. Pan de bois et colombage recouverts d'ardoises clouées en guise de protection contre les intempéries. Large ouverture pour la boutique à rez-de-chaussée.

History
This construction is situated in one of the oldest streets of La Rochelle which led to the "great shore" which extended from the tower of the Chain to the bridge of Saint-Sauveur. It was defended, on the "great shore", by a gate which formed part of the enclosure created around the port in the 14th century. These are, with the building no. 4 rue du Port, the only two buildings of the 15th or 16th century still surviving. Façade in timber framing with framing in corbel over an entresol situated above a shop. Infill in bricks covered with render. Timber framing and framing covered with nailed slates as protection against the weather. Large opening for the shop at ground level.
