L'ancienne place forte de Brouage a été créé de toute pièce par Richelieu, au début du 17e siècle. De cette place subsistent les anciennes fortifications. History
The former stronghold of Brouage was created entirely by Richelieu at the beginning of the 17th century. Of this stronghold, the old fortifications survive. Within the enclosure, houses are grouped along chequered streets, low houses, nearly all dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Brouage is one of the rare complete surviving examples of a 17th-century flat-land fortress town, predating Vauban.
