Historique
Construction défensive, complètement isolée à haute mer, reliée au continent par une chaussée ou jetée accessible seulement à marée basse. Ce fort fut commencé en 1691 par ordre de Louvois. Il fut achevé en 1694. La construction comporte un donjon à créneaux, dominé par une échauguette d'angle. Le saillant supportant l'échauguette est armé d'un grand écu armorié, mutilé à la Révolution. La forme générale de l'ensemble est un ovale mesurant 55 mètres environ dans sa plus grande longueur. History
Defensive construction, completely isolated at high sea, connected to the continent by a causeway or jetty accessible only at low tide. This fort was begun in 1691 by order of Louvois. It was completed in 1694. The construction comprises a crenellated keep, dominated by a corner bartisan. The projection supporting the bartisan is armed with a large coat of arms, mutilated during the Revolution. The general shape of the complex is an oval measuring approximately 55 metres in its greatest length. The enclosure wall, originally crenellated, shelters, to the right and left of the keep, a powder magazine and a barracks. In the courtyard rise constructions and military stores. The southern projection of the enclosure wall is flanked by a projecting watch bartisan. This fort was declassified in 1889.
