L'abbaye fut fondée par Guillaume X du Poitou qui en fit don aux Cisterciens en 1136. La prospérité de l'abbaye ne se démentit pas jusqu'en 1395. Par la suite, les guerres et les pillages se succédèrent. A partir de 1574, les abbés commendataires furent à la tête de l'abbaye. De grands travaux de restauration furent menés au 18e siècle. De cet ensemble, il reste aujourd'hui un grand bâtiment 17e, corps de logis rectangulaire cantonné de deux pavillons latéraux, qui conserve des vestiges de la salle capitulaire médiévale. History
The abbey was founded by Guillaume X of Poitou who gave it to the Cistercians in 1136. The prosperity of the abbey continued unabated until 1395. Thereafter, wars and pillaging succeeded one another. From 1574 onwards, commendatory abbots were at the head of the abbey. Major restoration works were carried out in the 18th century. From this complex, there remains today a large 17th-century building, a rectangular main dwelling flanked by two lateral pavilions, which preserves vestiges of the medieval chapter house. A dovecote with a round shaft, rebuilt in 1720. An abbatial residence probably erected in 1663, of rectangular plan. Common buildings surrounding the abbatial residence.
