Historique

History
Until the Revolution, Lignières was the seat of an important seigneury which held directly from the king. The château was rebuilt in the early 17th century on the site of a first medieval building which was falling into ruin. The master-architect was Jehan Cosset. Access is by a bridge spanning the river which feeds the moats. An interior courtyard is delimited in front of the south façade. The north façade opens onto a meadow which is also surrounded by moats. The building consists of a main body of three storeys, one of which is under roof space, and two square pavilions at the corners, projecting on the north façade, whose hip roof rests on machicolations serving as consoles. On the south façade, the corner pavilion is extended by a rectangular wing of two storeys. The façade opens by a double round-arch door, with moulded surround framed by two pilasters supporting an entablature. The interior has been completely remodelled. Two rooms on the first storey nevertheless retain their original chimneys.
