L'ermitage est construit sur une arête rocheuse dominant un méandre de l'Agly. L'ermitage et le sanctuaire ont été édifiés sur l'emplacement d'un ancien château mentionné dès le 11e siècle. La chapelle, dont l'accès se fait par un escalier de 51 marches, a succédé à un premier sanctuaire dédié à sainte Anne. C'est un édifice à nef unique, à charpente apparente sur arcs doubleaux brisés, et choeur polygonal voûté sur croisée d'ogives. La construction de cette chapelle date du début du 16e siècle pour le choeur et d'une époque légèrement postérieure pour la nef. Les corps de bâtiments qui entourent la chapelle au sud et à l'est, sont plus tardifs (18e-19e siècles).

History
The hermitage is built on a rocky ridge dominating a meander of the Agly. The hermitage and sanctuary were built on the site of an old castle mentioned from the 11th century onwards. The chapel, whose access is by a staircase of 51 steps, succeeded a first sanctuary dedicated to Saint Anne. It is a building with a single nave, with exposed roof structure on broken doubleaux arches, and polygonal choir vaulted on a rib vault. The construction of this chapel dates from the beginning of the 16th century for the choir and from a slightly later period for the nave. The building blocks that surround the chapel to the south and east are later (18th-19th centuries).
