Le Castillet comprend trois parties : le Castillet proprement dit ou Grand Castillet, construit vers 1368 pour défendre la porte neuve ouverte à ce moment dans l'enceinte de la ville ; la Porte Notre-Dame ou Petit Castillet, accolée au flanc Est de la construction précédente et qui date de 1481-1485 ; le bastion polygonal établi en 1542 en avant du Grand Castillet pour en couvrir les approches. Le Castillet a été, jusqu'en 1892, affecté à usage de prison militaire, puis comme dépendances du casernement.

History
The Castillet comprises three parts: the Castillet proper or Grand Castillet, constructed around 1368 to defend the new gate opened at that moment in the town enceinte; the Porte Notre-Dame or Petit Castillet, adjoining the East side of the previous construction and which dates from 1481-1485; the polygonal bastion established in 1542 in front of the Grand Castillet to cover its approaches. The Castillet was, until 1892, used as a military prison, then as dependencies of the barracks.
