Joseph d'Ardena, comte de Darnius, aurait fait construire cet hôtel vers 1650. Ce personnage fut lieutenant de la cavalerie au service de Louis XIII. Mazarin lui attribua la vicomté d'Ille. Dans son état primitif, l'hôtel formait une masse de plan rectangulaire. Elevée de deux grands étages sur rez-de-chaussée, la construction entourait une cour intérieure avec entrée dans l'axe de la façade sud et galerie à colonnettes au nord de la cour. Extérieurement, la façade a été remaniée. Ces retouches ont cependant laissé subsister, avec le portail, les linteaux de marbre des fenêtres du premier étage, les encadrements en harpe, également de marbre, de celles du second étage, ainsi que les chaînes d'angle. Le portail est de type catalan, en plein cintre à grands claveaux. Pavée de petits galets, la cour est longée à l'ouest par un escalier extérieur droit qui donne accès à une galerie couverte de voûtins, tendus entre des poutrelles de bois. Cette galerie s'ouvrait sur la cour par trois arcades surbaissées reposant sur des colonnettes de marbre.

History
Joseph d'Ardena, comte de Darnius, is said to have had this hôtel built around 1650. This personage was a cavalry lieutenant in the service of Louis XIII. Mazarin attributed to him the vicomty of Ille. In its original state, the hôtel formed a mass of rectangular plan. Raised by two grand storeys above a ground floor, the construction surrounded an interior courtyard with entrance on the axis of the south façade and a gallery with small columns on the north of the courtyard. Externally, the façade has been reworked. These retouches have nevertheless left subsisting, with the doorway, the marble lintels of the windows of the first storey, the framings in harping, also of marble, of those of the second storey, as well as the corner chains. The doorway is of Catalan type, in round arch with large voussoirs. Paved with small pebbles, the courtyard is bordered on the west by a straight exterior staircase which gives access to a gallery covered with barrel vaults, stretched between wooden beams. This gallery opened onto the courtyard by three depressed arches resting on small marble columns.
