History
The fortifications appear to date from the end of the 13th century. Other parts were established or reinforced in the 14th and 15th centuries. The fortified gate is surmounted by a kind of elongated tower, higher than the wallwalk and comprising several levels. Preceded by a pointed arch, it presents a rear voussure in segment of a circle above which is arranged a small vaulted loggia. This loggia is entirely open towards the town in order to be exposed to the fire of the defenders in case of the taking of the tower. Three loopholes allow for defence, the middle one being intended for firearms.
