Historique

History
The plan of the church is typical of southern Gothic art: a wide nave flanked by a series of lateral chapels. The west façade is pierced in its centre by a door of Gothic style which would have been moved to this location in 1784 and would come from a rural chapel in the vicinity. A difference in stonework on the left part of the façade corresponds to the remains of the Romanesque church which preceded the present building. The façade is flanked by two oblique projections, similar to powerful buttresses. That on the left is surmounted by a small platform on corbels which would have served as a watchtower. That on the right is surmounted by the staircase turret of the powerful bell tower which rises in the south-west angle of the church. This quadrangular bell tower is pierced, on each of the east, west and north faces, by an ogival opening surmounted by a smaller round-arch opening. Unlike the other faces, the south side is pierced by two ogival openings placed side by side. On the summit platform of the bell tower subsist some elements of a balustrade of Flamboyant style. The construction following the lateral chapel forming a false transept, seems to have been resumed at an indeterminate date of the 19th or early 20th century, unless it be a total reconstruction. One of the major interests of the church is its sculptured decoration. The ogives are terminated by means of corbels sculptured in their middle part.
