Importance de l'hôtel dans l'évolution de l'architecture privée urbaine du 17e siècle à Montpellier. Bâti sur des structures de demeure médiévale à partir de la seconde moitié du 17e siècle, l'hôtel conserve une salle voûtée d'ogive en rez-de-chaussée et un passage en berceau ouvrant au sud sur l'ancienne artère médiévale. L'édifice s'organise autour d'une cour intérieure avec un escalier monumental ouvert par un ordre de colonnes en étage, sur le côté ouest. Le décor d'origine du grand salon (boiseries lambrissées et toiles peintes, avec plafond peint), est particulièrement remarquable. L'immeuble a subi plusieurs campagnes de construction et des transformations importantes au 18e siècle (remaniements des portes du rez-de-chaussée sur cour ; reconstruction de la façade sur la rue du Cannau...). Les modifications du 19e siècle sont plus ou moins aisées à discerner mais pourraient s'étendre à l'ordonnance classique des étages sur la cour.

Importance of the townhouse in the evolution of urban private architecture from the 17th century to Montpellier. Built on structures of a medieval dwelling from the second half of the 17th century, the townhouse preserves a hall with rib vault on the ground floor and a passage with barrel vault opening to the south onto the former medieval thoroughfare. The building is organized around an interior courtyard with a monumental staircase opened by an order of columns at the upper level on the west side. The original décor of the grand salon (wainscoted panels and painted canvases, with a painted ceiling) is particularly remarkable. The building underwent several building campaigns and important transformations in the 18th century (alterations of the ground-floor doors on the courtyard; reconstruction of the façade on rue du Cannau...). The modifications of the 19th century are more or less easy to discern but could extend to the classical arrangement of the storeys on the courtyard.
