Mentioned from the early 9th century, the place of "Lavania" is designated as "mansus" in 1123 and "villa" in 1126. After belonging to the monastery of Aniane, the land of Lavagnac passed, around the 16th century, to the marquis d'Arènes, du Vigan, then to the Mirman, lords of Adissan, who had the château built. The building, at least in its old part, was completed in 1640. The whole was certainly completed in 1760. Architectural study allows at least two building campaigns to be distinguished: the château with turrets with courtyard to the east and external staircases; the addition of stables and orangeries, terraces and fountains, with relocation of the main entrance to the south. The first campaign can be placed between 1622 and 1640, the second in the first half of the 18th century.
