The place is mentioned from 987 onwards but according to local tradition, the square tower would have Roman origins. The present castle dates from the 12th century. From 1093 onwards, documents begin to mention a "castellum". In 1116, the term "castrum" is employed in a deed of donation to the abbey of Gellone. In the course of the 13th century, the seigneury appears to have been divided into several co-seigneuries. In the 14th century, two families shared the principal rights. In the 15th century, the castle consisted of the keep-tower and the vaulted rooms of the ground floor. The old buildings consist of three towers connected by constructions: the keep in the centre, a square tower which projects onto the courtyard forming a short south wing and the tower of the north face, formerly isolated, serving as a dovecote. Towards the 17th century, this tower was connected to the main body by ancillary buildings and a terrace.
