In 1181, the alleu of "Saviniacum" appears among the possessions of the abbey of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières. The castle occupies a trapezoidal surface. A continuous crenellated curtain wall, supported to the west on either side of a square tower against which opens, to the south, a covered passage giving access to the inner courtyard. Elements of curtain wall form the eastern front, connected by more recent walls to the extremities of the western curtain. The inner courtyard forms a parallelogram close to a square, bounded to the west at the level of the tower and to the east by the façade of the main dwelling buildings. The eastern façade of the main dwelling buildings is pierced by a door leading to the staircase, enclosed in a triangular cage. The latter is built on three flights. The balusters are of asymmetrical section, with half-balusters engaged in the corner pilasters, which support stone balls with projections at each landing. The departure of the handrail is surmounted by a reclining lion. The staircase cage is decorated with numerous motifs in stone or plasterwork. One room is covered by a plasterwork ceiling, installed after the construction. The composition is arranged around a central panel representing a winged victory holding in one hand her trumpet, in the other a bouquet of flowers. Garlands in crescent form, compact, are connected to ribboned rosettes and to oval cartouches in false marble. In the middle of the short sides, ovoid cartouches present the coat of arms of the master of the place. Each of these armorial cartouches is supported by two winged amorini whilst a ribbon, connecting all around these various ornamental elements, is supported in each corner of the ceiling by eagles with wings spread. The framing consists of a roll moulding of foliage and modillions.
