History

In 1780, the consuls of Aniane decided to transfer the town hall to new premises near the market. The works were supervised by Sieur Henry, architect who drew up the plans for the new consular residence. Upon opening in 1781, the consuls found that their meeting hall was too small and decided to enlarge it. The hall today occupies most of the first floor. Below it was the covered market. All the compositional effort was directed at the façade with a cut corner, which has the advantage of being opened up by a public square. All surmounted by architrave moulding, a bare frieze and a large entablature with triangular pediment. The lateral windows, set in the corner, in the curved part, are surmounted by large garlands with lateral swags. The base of the lateral façades is pierced by arcades with round arches.
