Ancienne ville disparue. Le château est mentionné dès 990, ainsi que la chapelle castrale dont il ne reste rien. Après la croisade albigeoise, il semble que la seigneurie de Morcairol soit revenue au roi et inféodée à divers seigneurs. L'église paroissiale Saint-Michel existe comme but de pélerinage. Cette église est mentionnée en 1182 dans un accord entre le chapitre Saint-Nazaire de Béziers et l'abbé de Villemagne. Le périmètre des anciens remparts médiévaux dessinait vaguement une ellipse et s'étendait sur 800 à 900m. History
Former vanished town. The castle is mentioned from 990, as is the castle chapel of which nothing remains. After the Albigensian Crusade, it seems that the lordship of Morcairol passed to the king and was enfeoffed to various lords. The parish church of Saint-Michel exists as a pilgrimage destination. This church is mentioned in 1182 in an agreement between the chapter of Saint-Nazaire in Béziers and the abbot of Villemagne. The perimeter of the old medieval ramparts formed vaguely an ellipse and extended over 800 to 900m. The castle, the neighbouring chapel, a square tower and various other constructions were found within an enclosure of which numerous fragments remain. The outer enclosure must have completely encircled the old town adjoining the castle but does not appear as ancient as the castle itself. The Romanesque chapel presents a narrow nave extended by a semi-circular apse. The entrance door was remade in the 19th century as was the small bell tower.
