Historique

History
Fortified, the church was built on the rock. The sacristy, hollowed out of the rock, carries the tower and the bell tower, constructed above the triumphal arch (17th century, reworked in the 19th). Originally, a small Romanesque church of which the apse and the barrel vault nave still remain. It underwent two successive enlargements: first in length by the addition, towards the west, of a bay vaulted with liernes and tiercerons; then in width by the addition of a larger nave to the south of the old one. The old Romanesque church is found in the present north aisle, composed of a barrel vault nave and a semi-circular apse. The back bay vaulted with liernes and tiercerons dates from 1537. The great nave was constructed in the 17th century. Its eastern wall, without chevet projection, cuts through the old rampart at the contact of the fortified gate. This latest addition comprises three bays whose separations are marked by thick external buttresses. The south door opens between two Doric pilasters with moulded imposts. The frieze is decorated with six triglyphs, each bearing a suspended droplet. The metopes are bare, with the exception of that situated at the centre, which bears a bucranium with small leaf drops. The broken pediment, ornamented with dentils, frames a shell niche, itself framed by Ionic pilasters whose imposts with volutes are ornamented with oves and beaded mouldings. The whole is surmounted by a large architrave with rules, a bare frieze and a triangular pediment with dentils. This portal superimposes the Doric and Ionic orders.
