Edifice composé de constructions de plusieurs époques : prieuré roman ; collégiale médiévale ; cathédrale depuis 1694. De l'église primitive subsistent encore d'importantes parties (nef et clocher). L'église romane aurait été à peu près conservée intacte jusqu'au 18e siècle, époque à laquelle monseigneur Bauteville obtint de Louis XV les ressources nécessaires pour faire entreprendre des travaux d'agrandissement et de transformation complète de la cathédrale. Les remaniements opérés à cette époque ont englobé toute l'ossature romane dans les constructions du 18e siècle, hormis le porche et le clocher.

History
Building composed of constructions from several periods: Romanesque priory; medieval collegiate church; cathedral since 1694. Important parts of the primitive church still remain (nave and bell tower). The Romanesque church is said to have been preserved practically intact until the 18th century, when Monseigneur Bauteville obtained from Louis XV the resources necessary to undertake works of enlargement and complete transformation of the cathedral. The alterations made at this time have enclosed all the Romanesque framework in 18th-century construction, except for the porch and the bell tower.
