Historique

History
The church is cited in 1214. It was a simple rural votive church, with a priory first united to the college of Narbonne in Paris, then to that of the Doctrinaires of Limoux. The fame of this pilgrimage was due to the existence of a neighbouring spring, reputed to be miraculous. It is a large rectangular building with a single nave of five bays, separated by transverse arches resting on slightly projecting pillars with pilaster strips. Modern barrel vaulted ceilings. Narrow pentagonal sanctuary, flanked by two pentagonal absidioles. On either side of the first bay, two side chapels form a transept. Numerous ex-votos are hung there. The small bell tower rises to the south of the second bay from the choir. This octagonal turret was largely rebuilt in 1885. The porch has a monumental character. The jambs of the external entrance are composed of a series of mouldings of unequal diameters, all profiled with an almond shape with flat forward-beak, and arranged according to a double splay. The small columns have capitals with foliage bouquets on two tiers. The door opening onto the nave is divided into two parts by a trumeau decorated with a statue of the Virgin. On the interior, in the nave, it bears a cartouche with the inscription "Mater et Virgo". The long windows of the sanctuary are of two forms, separated by a very slender mullion. Each trefoil form is surmounted by a trilobe and a quatre-feuille occupies the point. The south rose is composed of six quatre-feuilles surrounding a quatre-feuille which occupies the centre. The six spandrels are empty and filled with stained glass.
