Historique

History
A simple villa in the 10th century, Fabrezan then depended on the monastery of Lagrasse, equally lord of Ferrals. Subsequently, this seigniory became the chief town of a barony, with particular lords and co-lords. The "castrum" of Fabrezan is mentioned from 1222 onwards. The tower is partly enclosed within the dwellings. Of barlong plan, it presents at the base ashlar courses of local sandstone. Above, courses of turret stone (lacustrine tufa). Rare arrow slits are cut through the walls. On the west, a sealed gate with round arch composed of thirteen voussoirs including one keystone. The interior framing is carved with a cavetto. This arch is made up of voussoirs of alternating tones (dark red veined sandstone; straw-yellow sandstone). A series of ashlar faces with bosses is visible at the upper part of the tower. There are also some at the base of the south arris. These are doubtless repairs of the 13th century.
