La paroisse de Villerouge faisait partie du consulat de Fabrezan et dépendait du monastère de Lagrasse dont l'abbé avait droit de présentation à la cure. L'édifice se compose d'une nef unique terminée par une abside semi-circulaire. En avant de la façade ouest, en prolongement des murs goutterots, se trouvent des restes de fondations qui pourraient laisser supposer que la nef était plus longue et que le mur de fond actuel aurait été élevé pour fermer l'église vers l'ouest après une ruine partielle. Le chevet est contourné par trois épais contreforts de construction relativement récente, destinés à soutenir les murs menacés par un très fort écartement dû aux mouvements de terrain causés par le ravinement de la colline. History
The parish of Villerouge was part of the consulat of Fabrezan and was under the jurisdiction of the monastery of Lagrasse, whose abbot had the right of presentation to the cure. The building consists of a single nave terminated by a semi-circular apse. In front of the west facade, in line with the walls of the gutters, there are remains of foundations which might suggest that the nave was longer and that the current back wall would have been erected to close the church to the west after a partial ruin. The chevet is surrounded by three thick buttresses of relatively recent construction, intended to support the walls threatened by a very strong spreading caused by ground movements caused by the gullying of the hill. The framing of the church entrance is of recent construction. The interior has lost its barrel vault of which only the springing remains and is currently covered with wainscoting. The fragments of frescoes that remain on the south and north walls suggest that the nave was entirely covered with pictorial decoration. The apse also retains some remains of painting. These frescoes, very mutilated, are difficult to read and represent figures.
