The buildings currently visible date from the end of the 12th century or the beginning of the 13th century and constitute the most important part of the former abbey whose first construction dates back to 990, as does that of the abbey church. A reconstruction of the church and probably of the buildings is undertaken in the second half of the 11th century. Significant alterations take place at the end of the 12th century as well as in the 13th century and concern principally the façade and interior of the abbey church, as well as the abbey which was rebuilt. The community dispersed almost entirely in the 15th century because of the Wars of Religion. The abbatial dwelling was partly reconstructed around 1650. In the 19th century, the opening of rue de la Gendarmerie separated the buildings of the chapterhouse and the cloisters attached to the church. Six groups of buildings are preserved: the vat house, the prison, the chapel, the cellars surmounted by the abbatial dwelling and the monumental gate.
