Historique
Seigneurie en 1205, le domaine devint marquisat au 17e siècle. Vers 1650, Louis XIV l'érigea en duché-pairie. Le château fut découronné par ordre de Richelieu. En 1791, il fut mis sous séquestre et vendu. Au début du 19e siècle, il fut acquis par le duc de Mortemart. Le château et ses dépendances forment un quadrilatère. L'ensemble était entouré de douves subsistant à l'est et à l'ouest, alimentées par l'eau d'un étang. Dans la tour, la cave est d'origine, avec sa voûte à sept voûtains et sa porte en arc brisé. Au sud subsiste un mur très épais, vestige de l'ancien château fort.

History
Seigniory in 1205, the domain became a marquessate in the 17th century. Around 1650, Louis XIV raised it to a duchy-peerage. The castle was stripped of its battlements by order of Richelieu. In 1791, it was placed under sequestration and sold. In the early 19th century, it was acquired by the Duke of Mortemart. The castle and its outbuildings form a quadrilateral. The whole was surrounded by moats surviving to the east and west, fed by water from a pond. In the tower, the cellar is original, with its vault with seven voussures and its broken arch door. To the south remains a very thick wall, a vestige of the former stronghold.
