Historique

History
The land of Laugerie belonged in 1595 to the abbess of la Règle who resided there part of the year. In 1715, the superior of the grand seminary of Limoges purchased Laugerie in the name of the company of Saint-Sulpice. From 1715 to 1791, the château served as a country house for the grand seminary. The rectangular main dwelling is framed by two square pavilions projecting on the courtyard. A vast enclosure wall surrounds the whole. It is open between the west wing of the château and the chapel by a carriage gateway and a pedestrian gate. The current plan corresponds to that of the 18th century, with the exception of the removal of a staircase cage. The courtyard façade is the most interesting by its general arrangement. It presents two storeys and a storey of dormers with moulded triangular pediment. The decoration is limited to the moulding of the doors and the grilles of the windows above the door. Added in 1819, the outbuildings present the same balance in the alternation of bays as the château. At ground level, the central hall presents a stucco decoration in the antique manner: pilasters with rounded fluting with listel and Ionic capitals with angled horn volutes and echinus decorated with ovolo. The first storey retains three Empire fireplaces. The cellar corridor vaulted in round arch opens out by a staircase into a rectangular room open to the east onto a small room cut into the tufa and barrel-vaulted, and to the west by a long underground passage hollowed with niches.
