Une enceinte ainsi que deux tours fortifiées circulaires assurent la défense du corps de logis principal, datant du 15ème siècle, du château. Au 17ème siècle, le nouveau seigneur de Villemonteix procède à l'aménagement du premier étage de la demeure. Un pigeonnier est installé dans la tour d'enceinte nord-est et les jardins au nord (verger et potager) sont aménagés.

History
An enclosure as well as two fortified circular towers ensure the defence of the principal main dwelling, dating from the 15th century, of the castle. In the 17th century, the new lord of Villemonteix proceeds with the arrangement of the first floor of the dwelling. In the 18th century, the entirety of the ground floor is remodelled and we see the appearance of panelled rooms as well as fireplaces. During the same period, a wing is built at the south-east angle of the principal body of the building. Still during this same period, outbuildings are constructed (bakery, shed and grain store, granaries, stable and pigsty), as well as the gateways separating the spaces around the dwelling. A dovecote is installed in the north-east enclosure tower and the gardens to the north (orchard and vegetable garden) are laid out.
