Historique

History
In 1483, the office of Saint-Georges decided to reinforce the defence of Calvi by constructing new fortifications, the castle of Vecchio Castello being insufficient to ensure the protection of the stronghold. The Milanese engineer-architect Cristoforo Gandino and the architect Francesco Sforza were employed on the project. In 1491, the whole was mentioned as fit for service. The works were completed in 1545, and reinforced during the Franco-Turkish threat. The walls were completed in the 17th century. The upper town is surrounded by ramparts consisting of three bastions (San Giorgio, Malfetano, Teghiale) and curtains, built of rubble stone of granite and brick.
