Historique
Alors que Napoléon III décidait, en 1855, de la participation d'un corps expéditionnaire français à la guerre de Crimée, une frégate quitta Toulon en février avec 773 hommes à son bord. Au cours d'une tempête, la Sémillante fit naufrage au large de Bonifacio, aux îles Lavezzi. Tous les hommes périrent. Une stèle commémorative pyramidale et deux cimetières furent établis sur les îles.

History
While Napoleon III decided, in 1855, on the participation of a French expeditionary force in the Crimean War, a frigate left Toulon in February with 773 men on board. During a storm, the Sémillante was wrecked off Bonifacio, at the Lavezzi islands. All the men perished. A pyramidal commemorative stele and two cemeteries were established on the islands.
