Historique
Prieuré fondé au 12e siècle, dépendant alors de l'abbaye de Tiron. En 1566, il devint la propriété de Pierre de Ronsard qui le conserva jusqu'à sa mort. En 1793, terres et bâtiment furent vendus et morcelés. La chapelle a été détruite au début du 19e siècle, mais la crypte subsiste encore. Le logis principal, qui comporte un grand pignon à rampant de pierre, serait du 15e siècle, mais a été remanié depuis. Il a conservé son ancienne porte avec son marteau et, à l'intérieur, un escalier en bois du 16e siècle, et quelques menuiseries d'époque. L'aile droite adossée à ce bâtiment date du 18e siècle. Croixval a été l'une des retraites favorites de Ronsard qui y écrivit une grande partie de son oeuvre.

History
Priory founded in the 12th century, then dependent on the abbey of Tiron. In 1566, it became the property of Pierre de Ronsard who kept it until his death. In 1793, land and buildings were sold and divided. The chapel was destroyed in the early 19th century, but the crypt still remains. The main dwelling, which comprises a large gable with stone slope, would be from the 15th century, but has been altered since. It has retained its old door with its knocker and, inside, a wooden staircase of the 16th century, and some period fittings. The right wing abutting this building dates from the 18th century. Croixval was one of Ronsard's favourite retreats where he wrote much of his work.
