Historique
Château où Pierre de Ronsard naquit en 1524. Le manoir, construit par le père du poète vers 1515, comprend un corps de logis rectangulaire, et des dépendances creusées dans le tuffeau. Les cuisines troglodytes ont des portes ornées de sculptures Renaissance. Le château a été fortement restauré au 19e siècle. La demeure présente, par son décor, un grand intérêt. On y trouve pour la première fois des éléments qui seront utilisés ensuite dans les châteaux royaux des bords de Loire, mêlés à des décors floraux. L'ensemble n'est pas parvenu intégralement jusqu'à notre époque. Il comprenait plusieurs bâtiments groupés autour d'une cour intérieure : le corps de logis principal, une chapelle, des communs. History
Castle where Pierre de Ronsard was born in 1524. The manor, built by the poet's father around 1515, comprises a rectangular main dwelling and outbuildings carved into the tuffeau. The troglodytic kitchens have doors adorned with Renaissance sculptures. The castle was heavily restored in the 19th century. The residence presents, in its decoration, considerable interest. One finds there for the first time elements which will subsequently be used in the royal castles on the Loire banks, mingled with floral decoration. The whole has not survived intact to our time. It comprised several buildings grouped around an interior courtyard: the main dwelling, a chapel, outbuildings. The chapel and the wing returning towards the hillside have disappeared. Of the building built against the hillside only the cellars and part of the staircase which served the floors remain.
