History

Of the abbey survive a part of the cloister and the cellar building. Only the north side of the cloister remains, destroyed in its western part. These remains consist of twenty-one pointed arches, resting on pilasters profiled with flat mouldings, without columns and without sculptures. This gallery is covered by a roof structure of wood forming the hull of an inverted ship. The cloister is set against a large low room which appears to have served as a cellar. In the interior, the room is vaulted with two naves of pointed-arch ribs with transverse arches and wall ribs, resting on lateral octagonal pilasters, and, at the centre, on seven stout cylindrical columns with octagonal capitals. Above this room is found a vast garret. At the end of this cellar was another square room. The chapel contains the 14th century tombs of Jean and Guy de Chatillon. These tombs each consist of a base decorated with Gothic arches forming niches each sheltering a figure, and, on this base, an effigy.
