L'église de l'ancienne abbaye Saint-Julien de Tours est un édifice gothique du 13e siècle, conservant un clocher-porche roman. Elle a été vendue comme bien national à la Révolution, puis transformée en dépôt de diligences. Après avoir été achetée par l'Etat, sur l'intervention de Prosper Mérimée, elle a été restaurée par l'architecte diocésain Gustave Guérin puis rendue au culte catholique. Gravement endommagée par les bombardements allemands de 1940 et le grand incendie qui ravagea alors cette partie de Tours, l'abbatiale fut restaurée après guerre par l'architecte Vitry.

History
The church of the former abbey Saint-Julien of Tours is a Gothic building of the 13th century, preserving a Romanesque porch tower. It was sold as a national asset at the Revolution, then transformed into a coach house. After being purchased by the State, on the intervention of Prosper Mérimée, it was restored by the diocesan architect Gustave Guérin then returned to Catholic worship. Seriously damaged by German bombardments in 1940 and the great fire which then ravaged this part of Tours, the abbey church was restored after the war by architect Vitry.
