The foundation dates from 1092. From the priory where Ronsart lived, many buildings remain, some ruined such as the church, others complete, such as the prior's dwelling inhabited by Ronsart, the refectory and a wing of the adjoining buildings. From the 12th-century church there remain two bays of the ambulatory and two radiating chapels. The priorat building is placed to the south of the church and comprises, on the first storey, a corbelled gallery built in timber framing. To the north are buildings from the 16th century and a construction from the early 12th century. In 1944, a bombing targeting the Loire bridge on the Paris-Tours line, destroyed the sub-priory and the entrance gate. Ronsart lived in this priory, came there to die and was buried there. The priory was given to the department by the Association for the Safeguarding of French Art on 3 September 1951.
