Il ne reste du château qu'un corps de logis rectangulaire, flanqué à l'ouest d'une tour d'escalier. Cette tour est la seule partie ancienne qui subsiste dans son état primitif, le reste du bâtiment ayant été profondément remanié à la fin du 19e siècle. Cet édifice servit de résidence au roi Louis XI, qui y mourut en 1483. Le cachot dit de "La Ballue" est une salle voûtée en plein cintre, dont l'accès se faisait par un escalier sous lequel, dit-on, fut enfermé le cardinal La Ballue.

History
Nothing remains of the castle but a rectangular main dwelling, flanked to the west by a staircase tower. This tower is the only old part which survives in its original state, the rest of the building having been profoundly remodelled at the end of the 19th century. This building served as a residence for King Louis XI, who died there in 1483. The dungeon known as "La Ballue" is a barrel vault chamber, access to which was by a staircase beneath which, it is said, the cardinal La Ballue was imprisoned.
